As an homage and parody to the science fiction film classic “2001: A Space Odyssey” by Stanley Kubrick, director Italo De Angelis developed the contemporary image film for the Planetarium Berlin Foundation.
The recognizable elements from Kubrick’s film are the monolith, the monkeys, and the astronaut. The film represents the evolutionary stages of mankind: primacy, development, knowledge, innovations, up to the ability of man to fly into space and, as the last, the encounter with the superhuman and the future. A scope of meaning that stands for today’s modern planetariums.
The performance takes place in a theater, referencing the planetarium as a space for science theater.
Short Trailer
The dance is accompanied by a musical piece by experimental musician and DJ Sam Eyvaz. Eyvaz’s composition consists of deformed sounds of his viola and electronic spherical sound. This expresses the infinite expanses of the universe and at the same time represents Berlin’s music and club culture.
